The film is not always ordinary dust
Interior glass collects fingerprints, cleaning-product overspray, airborne oils, and material released gradually from interior plastics. Windshield angle and sunlight make even light residue easy to see.
Smoking, vaping, and frequent use of oily dressings can make the film return faster.
Use two clean towels
One towel loosens and collects contamination; a second dry towel removes remaining moisture and checks the finish. Reusing a saturated towel simply spreads residue.
Work in small sections and use a glass-safe cleaner sparingly instead of soaking the dashboard and surrounding trim.
Check from another angle
Streaks that disappear in the shade may be obvious in direct light. View the windshield from both the driver’s seat and outside the vehicle.
Clean glass improves appearance, but more importantly it reduces distracting glare during night and low-angle driving.
